What is Orthodoxy?
The Orthodox Church is the Church founded by Jesus Christ and the Apostles as chronicled in the New Testament Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. The Bishops of the Orthodox Church can be traced back in an unbroken succession to the Apostles themselves. This is the faith taught by Christ and preached by the Apostles without adding or subtracting teachings.
In the West the Orthodox Church is often referred to as the Eastern Orthodox Church or the Orthodox Catholic Church (not to be confused with the Roman Catholic Church). The word Orthodox means “straight teaching” ; it is derived from two Greek words: orthos or “straight”, and doxia or “teaching”.
